PM Unveils Mid-Year Results in the Fight Against Child Labor Exploitation

Representing the Public Ministry, Attorney Nancy Paiz, acting head of the Prosecutor’s Office Against Human Trafficking, participated in the Technical Roundtable on the Prevention and Eradication of Child Labor, organized by the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare.

During the event, Attorney Paiz presented the semi-annual report evidencing the institution’s efforts in the prevention, investigation, and prosecution of all forms of child labor exploitation, as well as the protection of working minors.

These operations have been conducted under the directives of Attorney Dimas Jiménez y Jiménez, Metropolitan Regional Prosecutor.

In the first half of 2025, the Prosecutor’s Office Against Human Trafficking executed 52 search and seizure warrants at establishments suspected of child labor trafficking and exploitation. These actions led to the rescue and liberation of 46 minors subjected to forced labor conditions, and the arrest, detention, and formal charging of 18 individuals implicated in these criminal offenses.

Beyond operational enforcement, the prosecutor’s office has promoted awareness campaigns and inter-agency coordination meetings across various jurisdictions to strengthen efforts in preventing and combating child labor exploitation nationwide. These initiatives aim to guarantee access to justice and victim protection for vulnerable populations.

The Public Ministry reaffirms its commitment to uphold the rights of children and adolescents, working in a coordinated, multi-institutional framework to dismantle and prosecute labor exploitation networks in Guatemala.
