The Public Ministry, through the Prosecutor’s Office Against the Crime of Extortion and the Extortion Prosecutor’s Office in Izabal, secured guilty verdicts against 24 members of the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), who operated in Puerto Barrios and also had an impact in Guatemala City.

The evidence presented by the prosecution proved that the convicted individuals were members of the cliques known as “Porteño Locos Salvatruchas,” “Black Demons Locos Salvatrucha,” and “Santos Locos Salvatruchas,” which were involved in extorting transport workers and businesses, in addition to planning and executing other serious crimes.

The following sentences were imposed:

• Edgar Josué P. – 101 years of non-commutable prison for the crimes of aggravated extortion, conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit obstruction of public transportation, and illicit association.
• Alexander Eléazar B. – 93 years of non-commutable prison for obstruction of public transportation, illicit association, conspiracy to commit murder, and conspiracy to commit obstruction of public transportation.
• Mario Donaldo C. – 87 years of non-commutable prison for illicit association, conspiracy to commit obstruction of public transportation, and conspiracy to commit murder.
• David Noel R. – 81 years of non-commutable prison for murder, illicit association, and conspiracy to commit murder.
• Fredy Ronaldo R. – 56 years of non-commutable prison for illicit association and conspiracy to commit murder.
• Bryan José L. – 56 years of non-commutable prison for conspiracy to commit murder and illicit association.
• Josselin Guadalupe C. – 43 years of non-commutable prison for obstruction of public transportation, illicit association, conspiracy to commit murder, and conspiracy to commit obstruction of public transportation.
• Charlies Jeaser C. – 26 years of non-commutable prison for aggravated extortion, conspiracy to commit obstruction of public transportation, illicit association, and repeated obstruction of public transportation.
• Jeremías Fernando Z. – 14 years of non-commutable prison for illicit association and repeated obstruction of public transportation.
• Jessica Mariela M. – 14 years of non-commutable prison for illicit association and repeated obstruction of public transportation.
• Leslie Lorena H. – 14 years of non-commutable prison for illicit association and repeated obstruction of public transportation.
• Milton Iván S. – 14 years of non-commutable prison for illicit association and repeated obstruction of public transportation.
• Emerson Esaú R. – 14 years of non-commutable prison for illicit association and repeated obstruction of public transportation.
• Héctor Aníbal L. – 14 years of non-commutable prison for illicit association and repeated obstruction of public transportation.
• Edgar Leonel R. – 14 years of non-commutable prison for illicit association and repeated obstruction of public transportation.
• María Luisa E. – 14 years of non-commutable prison for illicit association and repeated obstruction of public transportation.
• Santos Israel G. – 14 years of non-commutable prison for illicit association and repeated obstruction of public transportation.
• Pablo Alejandro H. – 12 years of non-commutable prison for illicit association and obstruction of public transportation.
• Marvin Daniel A. – 12 years of non-commutable prison for illicit association and obstruction of public transportation.
• Marlon Antonio R. – 12 years of non-commutable prison for illicit association and obstruction of public transportation.
• Erick Oswaldo G. – 12 years of non-commutable prison for illicit association and obstruction of public transportation.
• Saida Filomena P. – 8 years of non-commutable prison for repeated obstruction of public transportation.
• José Alfonso G. – 6 years of non-commutable prison for illicit association.
• Manuel de Jesús P. – 6 years of non-commutable prison for illicit association.

This criminal structure was dismantled, and the Public Ministry successfully proved their involvement in the murder of a taxi driver in Guatemala City (Edgar Rolando Alonzo Pirir), as well as extortion of transport operators and taxi drivers, among other criminal acts.
