Anti-Trafficking Prosecutor’s Office Secures 16-Year Prison Sentence for Sexual Exploitation of Minors in Villa Canales 

On October 28, 2025, the Anti-Trafficking Prosecutor’s Office obtained a conviction against Lidia L., aka “Lily,” for human trafficking in the form of sexual exploitation. The Penal Sentencing Court with Specialized Jurisdiction over Human Trafficking Crimes in Guatemala sentenced her to 16 years of irrevocable imprisonment and imposed a fine of Q300,000.

The court also ordered:

  • Registration in the National Sexual Offender Registry.
  • Cancellation of the business license of Cantina Casino Tropical.
  • Victim reparations, including psychological care, scholarships, social support programs, and a local awareness campaign.
  • Psychological therapy for the convicted individual to understand the gravity of her actions.

The crimes occurred in April 2023, when Lidia L. worked as the manager of Cantina Casino Tropical in Villa Canales, exploiting two minors who were in vulnerable circumstances.
