The Attorney General of the Republic and Chief of the Public Ministry, Ms. María Consuelo Porras Argueta, led a working meeting with chiefs and officers of the prosecution office against the crime of human trafficking.

The meeting was attended by the following officials: Ms. Nancy Paiz, Chief of the Administrative Office; Mr. Carlos Figueroa, Prosecutorial Agent; Magistrate Jenny Noemy Alvarado, Vocal XIII of the Supreme Court of Justice; and Magistrate Gustavo Adolfo Morales Duarte, President of the Criminal Chamber and Vocal XII of the Supreme Court of Justice.

The prosecution office against human trafficking is responsible for investigating and prosecuting this crime in its various forms, prioritizing the protection of life, liberty, and sexual integrity of victims. Its work is carried out through specialized units and regional prosecutorial offices in the western, northern, northeastern, and Petén regions.

During the meeting, the results achieved nationally in 2025 were highlighted, including the execution of 483 search warrants, the arrest of 206 individuals (51 percent in flagrante delicto), the holding of 256 first-declaration hearings, 216 formal charges, and 191 conclusive actions. Additionally, 140 sentences were issued, 95 percent of which were convictions.

As a result of the investigations, 10 criminal networks dedicated to human trafficking were dismantled, generating a significant impact on their operational and financial capacity.

With these actions, the Public Ministry reaffirms its commitment to strengthening the investigation and criminal prosecution of this crime, ensuring access to justice and comprehensive protection for victims.
