Public Ministry (MP) achieves first conviction for the crime of seduction of children and adolescents through the use of information technologies
The Public Ministry through the investigative proceedings and litigious work of the Unit against Online Child Sexual Exploitation of the Human Trafficking Prosecutor’s Office achieved the first conviction for the crime of seduction of children and adolescents through the use of information technologies.
The convicted person is Francisco Javier Cordón Martínez, who was sentenced to six years of non-commutable imprisonment. He was also sentenced to 3 years and 3 months of imprisonment for the crime of possession of pornographic material of minors with special aggravating circumstances.
As part of the sentence, the court ordered the special disqualification of Cordón Martínez from working as a teacher for twice the time of the sentence imposed and his registration in the National Registry of Sex Offenders (RENÁS).
The court also ordered the confiscation of the electronic devices in favor of the Public Ministry.
The now sentenced person was arrested on July 14, 2022 during a raid carried out at his residence located in the municipality of Mixco, Guatemala.
The Specialized Unit requested his arrest following a complaint filed by a teenager who was a victim of Cordón Martínez. He was her teacher and asked her for unclothed photographs through the WhatsApp instant messaging application.
