The Public Ministry achieves a sentence against a woman for human trafficking

Based on evidence presented by the Prosecution Agency for the Western Region of the Human Trafficking Prosecutor`s Office, located in Quetzaltenango, a convicting sentence of 15 years and 4 months of imprisonment, along with a fine of Q.300,000, was imposed on Lady Inés Montejo Herrera.

She was declared responsible for committing the crimes of human trafficking in complicity and promoting, facilitating, or favoring prostitution, to the detriment of one teenager and two adult women.

The sentence was handed down by the Specialized Criminal Sentencing Tribunal for Human Trafficking Crimes in the department of Quetzaltenango.

According to the investigation, in 2017, Montejo Herrera harbored a teenager in the business «El Rinconcito,» a store and tavern located in Zone 1 of the municipality of San Pedro Sacatepéquez, San Marcos, where the teenager was sexually exploited and forced to consume alcoholic beverages with customers.

Montejo Herrera was arrested in flagrante on May 14, 2021, during a search operation. Two women engaged in prostitution were found during the operation.
