Through its various agencies, the Prosecutor’s Office against Extortion of the Public Ministry carried out the «Muralla» operation in three phases, yielding positive results. Notably, 92 individuals were arrested for various crimes, and evidence was seized to strengthen ongoing investigations.
PHASE I
The first phase occurred on November 26 with 106 search and seizure operations in properties located in the capital, Villa Nueva, San Miguel Petapa, Villa Canales, Mixco, Chinautla, Santa Catarina Pinula, San Pedro, San Juan Sacatepéquez, Escuintla, Sacatepéquez, and Mazatenango. This phase resolved 46 complaints, resulting in the apprehension of 67 individuals, including members of the Barrio 18 gang and a National Civil Police agent. Charges include illicit association, murder, attempted murder, extortion, conspiracy to commit murder, extortionate obstruction of traffic, and kidnapping. Additionally, Q79,284.00 in cash, 31 phones, 2 revolvers, 3 SIM cards, 3 firearm cartridges, 40 rounds of ammunition, and a USB drive were seized for analysis to bolster ongoing investigations.

PHASE II
On December 4, the second phase involved 44 search and seizure operations in properties located in the capital, Villa Nueva, San Miguel Petapa, San Juan Sacatepéquez, Santa Catarina Pinula, San Pedro Ayampuc, Fraijanes, Escuintla, and Sacatepéquez. This phase resolved five complaints, leading to the arrest of 22 individuals for crimes such as illicit association, conspiracy to commit murder, and extortion. Eight cell phones were also seized.

PHASE III
The third and final part of the operation took place on December 13, resulting in the arrest of three individuals for extortion and the seizure of two cell phones.
These actions constitute a significant blow to organized crime structures and extortionists who unlawfully profit from Guatemalan citizens, making monetary demands under the threat of death. The Prosecutor’s Office against Extortion, dedicated to the victims, operates 24/7 and encourages the Guatemalan population to report this crime through the hotline 1574, the mobile app #ReportesMP, or any Public Ministry office nationwide.
