Chief of the Public Ministry Inaugurates Prosecution Agency at the Second General Property Registry

The Attorney General of the Republic and Chief of the Public Ministry, Mrs. María Consuelo Porras Argueta, inaugurated a Prosecution Agency of the Public Ministry at the facilities of the Second General Property Registry in the department of Quetzaltenango.

In the event, which was held both in-person and virtually, Mr. Walther Alexander Alvarado, Registrar of the Second Property Registry, participated. Also present were Mrs. Carmen Gabriela Contreras Alfaro, Second Deputy Secretary-General, Mr. Eduardo Calito Mejía, Secretary of International Affairs and Cooperation, and Mr. Jonas Hernández, Administrative Chief of the Public Ministry.

From the new headquarters of the Public Ministry Prosecution Agency, Mrs. Aura Marina López, Regional Prosecutor VII, and Mrs. Gabriela Estefanía Escribá Pimentel, Administrative Director, participated alongside officials from the Second General Property Registry.

During her speech, Mrs. María Consuelo Porras emphasized that the establishment of the Prosecution Agency aims to strengthen inter-institutional cooperation to effectively and swiftly coordinate investigations of crimes committed against the legal certainty provided by the Second General Property Registry and against private property guaranteed by the Political Constitution of the Republic in its various registrations, annotations, cancellations, and other real rights of transfer of ownership. It also aims to provide the Guatemalan public with quality service close to their justice needs.

This inauguration follows actions set after the signing of the inter-institutional cooperation agreement on July 4, 2023, between both institutions, through which a Prosecution Agency was also established at the main headquarters of the General Property Registry, located at 9th Avenue 14-25, zone 1.

With these agencies, the goal is to expedite the investigation process for crimes committed against the legal certainty provided by the General Property Registry.

In this manner, both institutions combine efforts, each within its scope of competence, to ensure immediate access to justice and the protection of citizens’ rights, providing effective, timely, and quality attention, offering an immediate response to their justice needs, thereby contributing to the strengthening of the Rule of Law within a culture of respect and legality.
