The Attorney General of the Republic and Chief of the Public Ministry, Mrs. María Consuelo Porras Argueta, participated this morning in a meeting of the Technical Table of the Interinstitutional Center against Drug Trafficking in Guatemala -CICNAG-,Ministry of National Defense.

Also attending the meeting was the Deputy Minister of Antinarcotics acting as Minister of the Interior, Mr. Werner Florencio Ovalle Ramírez;

Brigadier General Carlos Antonio Medina Juárez, Chief of Staff of the National Defense; the Section Prosecutor of the Narcotics Prosecutor’s Office, Mrs. Nelly Morataya.

The First Deputy Secretary-General, Mr. Erick Schaeffer; the Regional Prosecutor of National Coordination, Mr. Dimas Jiménez, Prosecutors, and the person in charge of the Liaison and Analysis Unit of the Narcotics Prosecutor’s Office, as well as officials from the Ministry of the Interior, National Civil Police, and Ministry of National Defense.

During the meeting, the results obtained through the coordination of CICNAG during the year 2023 were presented, of which the officials expressed their satisfaction.

Among these, the dismantling of 12 criminal organizations dedicated to drug trafficking and related crimes, seizure of different types of drugs, money in various denominations, and assets, as well as the eradication of 23 illicit crops of coca leaf bushes, 13 eradication of marijuana plants, and 1 eradication of poppy were highlighted.

The Attorney General thanked the commitment expressed by the officials to continue adding efforts to strengthen the proper articulation and interinstitutional coordination,

within the framework of their respective competencies that have allowed transcendental results in favor of the Guatemalan population.

Likewise, Mrs. Porras Argueta cordially invited the Minister of the Interior and the Minister of National Defense to participate in a working meeting on April 5th,

to continue with coordinated work and achieve effective frontal combat of drug trafficking in Guatemala and the region.

The CICNAG carries out its activities 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and among some of its functions are to collect information, classify it, and analyze it to plan preventive and reactive actions. In addition, to carry out strategic, operational, and tactical coordination and activities to develop them together.
