With the objective of bolstering legal cooperation and advancing joint legal endeavors between the Public Ministry and the National Association of Municipalities of the Republic of Guatemala (ANAM), Mrs. María Consuelo Porras Argueta, Attorney General of the Republic and Chief of the Public Ministry, spearheaded the third assembly of the departmental tour, pursuant to the legal cooperation agreement between both entities.

The gathering convened in Ciudad Vieja, Sacatepéquez, featuring the participation of municipal mayors from the jurisdiction alongside legal authorities representing both the Public Ministry and ANAM.

These concerted legal efforts serve to foster a culture of legal compliance and accountability within the Sacatepéquez department, while also effectuating positive societal impacts. The direct engagement between legal authorities of the Public Ministry and municipal officials facilitates an intimate understanding of the legal exigencies unique to each locality, with the overarching aim of implementing coordinated legal strategies to mitigate criminal activity.

During the proceedings, representatives from the Public Ministry’s legal offices for Women, Juveniles in Conflict with the Penal Code, Unit for Appeals, and Crimes against Foreign Tourists were in attendance.

Ms. Lucrecia Varinia Vásquez Abadía, Secretary of Women at the Public Ministry, delivered a presentation on the legal framework for the establishment of local search teams, duly sanctioned by the Coordinator of the Immediate Search Mechanism for Missing Women.

In an address, Mr. Clemente Federico Arturo Bethancourt Sánchez, coordinator of ANAM representatives to public institutions and mayor of Ciudad Vieja, Sacatepéquez, expressed commendation for the concerted legal efforts and extended felicitations to Mrs. María Consuelo Porras Argueta for her dedication to legal engagement with municipalities.

Mr. Sebastián Siero, President of ANAM, affirmed their ongoing commitment to legal collaboration for the betterment of Guatemalan society.
