Extraditions: Public Ministry Remains Steadfast and Strong in the Fight Against Transnational Organized Crime

The excellent inter-agency coordination of the Public Ministry, with the support of the Special and Elite Forces of the National Civil Police, has enabled the effective execution of operational actions to locate each of the individuals sought by various countries, primarily the United States.

Requests for both passive and active extraditions have been coordinated by various prosecutors’ offices and the Specialized Unit for International Affairs of the Public Ministry. So far in 2024, the Public Ministry has coordinated the arrest for extradition purposes of 15 individuals for various crimes.

Of these, 12 arrests were at the request of the government of the United States: 10 for drug trafficking, one for child pornography, and one for human smuggling. The remaining three were at the request of Central American countries: two to El Salvador for extortion and illicit trafficking, and one to Costa Rica for aggravated theft, simulation of a crime, and conspiracy.
