The Public Ministry of Guatemala received this week the visit of the Attorney General of El Salvador, along with a delegation of prosecutors, with the objective of strengthening cooperation and coordination between both institutions.

Mr. Rodolfo Antonio Delgado Montes, Attorney General of El Salvador, and his delegation were welcomed on Monday, April 28, by Mrs. María Consuelo Porras Argueta, Attorney General of the Republic and Head of the Public Ministry of Guatemala, and her team.

During the first working session, the Salvadoran delegation received training on digital transformation in institutional IT systems, particularly the ASTREA system. This technological tool used by the Public Ministry enables more efficient case management and improved coordination among various departments, ensuring faster and more effective justice delivery.

The discussion also addressed the digitization of electronic files, which has led not only to more efficient case handling and paper savings, but also to increased transparency across all processes.

The second day of the visit, held on Tuesday, April 29, focused on the legal extradition process, the role of internal departments within the Public Ministry in such cases, and the procedural steps required to execute extraditions.

Finally, the Salvadoran delegates, accompanied by Guatemalan officials, toured the Interinstitutional Center Against Narcoactivity in Guatemala (CICNAG)—an initiative launched during Mrs. Porras Argueta’s administration. The center aims to coordinate and strengthen investigative and prosecutorial efforts against drug trafficking through cutting-edge technology and an interagency approach involving multiple state entities.

Historic results of CICNAG were presented, highlighting major advances in the fight against drug trafficking and transnational criminal organizations.

This visit is part of ongoing joint efforts to exchange knowledge and best practices on key criminal justice issues. Organized crime knows no borders, making coordinated efforts between countries essential to more effectively tackle these challenges.

Throughout the visit, valuable information was shared, and legal coordination was enhanced to strengthen the fight against organized crime in both nations.
