Attorney General of the Republic of Guatemala Meets with the Property Rights Observatory

With the goal of strengthening interinstitutional coordination and advancing the protection of property rights in Guatemala, the Attorney General of the Republic and Chief of the Public Ministry, Mrs. María Consuelo Porras Argueta, held a meeting with representatives from the Property Rights Observatory (ODP).

During the meeting, the ODP donated two drones to the Public Ministry’s Specialized Prosecutor’s Office against Land Usurpation Crimes. The Attorney General emphasized that these tools will enhance the office’s ability to respond more effectively in investigations, enabling concrete actions for the protection of property rights and the fight against related crimes.

Porras also mentioned that in 2025, local authorities would be trained in the use of technological tools, such as panic buttons, to facilitate immediate alerts in case of incidents. Additionally, an integrative meeting will be held with organizations related to the protection of private property to form a unified front to address these issues and join efforts in eradicating property-related crimes.

The meeting also reviewed the results achieved in 2024, following the agreement signed in 2021 between the two institutions, which highlighted the launch of the “Property Rights Thermometer” platform, a tool providing data on property rights.

The Attorney General expressed deep gratitude to the Property Rights Observatory for their trust in the work of the Public Ministry, contributing to the strengthening of the institution and ensuring the rule of law in the framework of a culture of respect and legality.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Juan Gerardo Salazar Suchité, Deputy District Prosecutor and head of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office against Land Usurpation Crimes; Mr. Dimas Jiménez y Jiménez, Metropolitan Regional Prosecutor; Mrs. Julia María Juárez Sagüil, Second Deputy General Secretary in office; Mr. Eduardo Mejía Calito, Secretary of International Affairs and Cooperation; Mr. Andrés Esteban Galindo, Assistant Prosecutor at the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office against Land Usurpation Crimes; Mr. Erick Eduardo Schaeffer Cabrera, First Deputy General Secretary; and Mr. Juan Luis Pantaleón, Advisor to the Office.
