Attorney General Porras Argueta Meets with Members of the International Jewish Community

The Attorney General of the Republic and Chief of the Public Ministry (MP), Mrs. María Consuelo Porras Argueta, and the President of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) and the Judicial Body (OJ), Mr. Teódulo Ildefonso Cifuentes Maldonado, held a meeting with representatives of the International Jewish Community to discuss the Lev Tahor sect and the case brought against some of its members.

 

Mrs. Porras Argueta was accompanied by Mr. Ángel Arnoldo Pineda Ávila, Secretary General; Mr. Erick Estuardo Schaeffer Cabrera, First Deputy Secretary General; Mr. Eduardo Mejía Calito, Secretary of International Affairs; Mr. Dimas Jiménez y Jiménez, Metropolitan Regional Prosecutor; and Mr. Juan Luis Pantaleón González, Senior Counselor.

 

On behalf of the CSJ, Magistrates Mrs. Claudia Lucrecia Paredes, Mr. Carlos Ramiro Contreras Valenzuela, Mr. Gustavo Adolfo Morales Duarte, and Mr. René Guillermo Girón also participated.

 

At the beginning of her speech, the Attorney General stated that the Public Ministry respects human rights, works objectively in the application of justice, and that throughout this process, it has acted in accordance with the law, always seeking the protection of the most vulnerable.

 

She mentioned that they have worked with an interpreter, both with the children and adults of Lev Tahor, to establish accurate communication and thus guarantee prompt and fulfilled justice.

 

Additionally, children and adolescents undergo medical evaluations to determine if they have suffered any type of abuse; psychologists and psychiatrists work with them to provide security and protection.

 

The President of the CSJ expressed full readiness to provide all necessary support to ensure that sentences adhere to the law.

 

Magistrate Mrs. Claudia Lucrecia Paredes explained that they have worked closely with the Public Ministry and the Secretariat of Social Welfare of the Presidency to identify the parents of the rescued minors and have made efforts to hold daily hearings to advance the process.

The visitors expressed their gratitude for the support provided by the Public Ministry and conveyed their certainty that all actions are for the benefit of the children of that community; they also requested that the minors be placed in homes capable of providing them with a dignified life.

 

Mr. Yaakov Flitchkin, official advocate for the victims of the Lev Tahor cult, and Rabbi David Weiss, Chief Rabbi of the British Rabbinical Union and Rabbinical Judge of Satmar in Antwerp, Belgium, approached the Attorney General to share a special blessing, recognizing her work and dedication. Rabbi Weiss expressed his best wishes for her well-being and success and gave her his blessing.

In conclusion, Mrs. Porras Argueta reaffirmed that the Public Ministry is characterized by its thorough investigations, commitment, and responsibility, and that the case is being handled in the best possible way to punish those responsible, while prioritizing the welfare and rights of the children.

 

She also thanked the members of the International Jewish Community for their willingness and collaboration.
