As part of its strategic operations targeting transnational drug trafficking, the Public Ministry, through the Prosecutor’s Office for Narcotics Offenses, oversaw the seizure of 2,200 packages of cocaine, confirmed through preliminary field tests.

This result stems from a multi-agency interdiction operation coordinated by the Inter-Institutional Center Against Narcotics in Guatemala (CICNAG).

The interdiction began with the interception of a semi-submersible vessel in Pacific Ocean waters by the Guatemalan Army’s Naval Special Forces Unit of the National Defense Navy.

Following the interception, the Prosecutor’s Office for Narcotics Offenses, in conjunction with the Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Analysis Sub-directorate (SGAIA) of the National Civil Police, initiated legal and technical procedures to verify the nature and quantity of the seized contraband.

Upon inspection, 110 duffel bags («tulas») were found onboard, each containing 20 packages that field-tested positive for presumed cocaine.

The operation was executed at the Pacific Naval Base, with support from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (DICRI) of Escuintla.

As part of this coordinated action, three individuals — two Colombian nationals and one Ecuadorian national — were apprehended. They will be brought before the competent judicial authorities to face prosecution under Guatemalan law.

The Public Ministry, as a key coordinating institution within CICNAG, reaffirms its unwavering commitment to joint operations aimed at preventing, dismantling, and prosecuting criminal organizations engaged in drug trafficking and related offenses — all in defense of public security and justice for the people of Guatemala.
