Combat against drug trafficking: Collaborative efforts result in the seizure of narcotics valued at over Q154 million

The Narcotics Prosecutor’s Office, in conjunction with the General Subdirectorate of Antinarcotics Information Analysis of the National Civil Police, conducted an inspection on Sunday, April 28, of a container arriving from South America, located within the Quetzal Port Company premises in Puerto San José, Escuintla. This action was prompted by suspicion of potential contraband within.

Upon inspection, it was determined that the container, en route to a vessel entering Puerto Quetzal’s docks, harbored 34 bundles (sacks), containing a total of 1,300 packages with presumptive positive traces of cocaine.

Subsequent weighing revealed the packages to collectively weigh 1,508 kilograms, equating to an estimated value of 154,934,559 quetzals, or 19,366,819.90 United States dollars.

This notable operation was made feasible through collaborative endeavors involving the Public Ministry, the Special Naval Force of the Guatemalan Army, and the General Subdirectorate of Antinarcotics Information Analysis.

It is noteworthy that this stands as one of the largest seizures conducted thus far in the current year.
