Through the Women’s Prosecutor’s Office in Huehuetenango, the Public Ministry (MP) was able to secure a 24-year prison sentence for Carlos Aroldo Funes Gómez. He was found guilty of the crime of rape with an aggravated sentence and aggravating circumstances, which he committed against a 7-year-old girl.

The crime occurred on August 7, 2022, on a property located in Zone 4 of Huehuetenango. He abducted the victim from her home, assaulted her, tied her up, and committed the crime.

During the hearing, the convicted person was also ordered to pay Q.8,000.00, as dignified reparation. Additionally, he was directed to inform the Ministry of Education to provide a scholarship to the victim and the Ministry of Social Development to include her in an economic support program.
