III National Meeting of Social Work Professionals: The Importance of the Gender Perspective in the Preparation of Social Reports
The Victim Support Coordination Department of the Public Ministry, with the purpose of promoting the exchange of experiences and strengthening the quality of care for victims of crimes, organized the III National Meeting of Social Work Professionals under the motto:
“The Importance of the Gender Perspective in the Preparation of Social Reports.”
This initiative had as its main objective to strengthen the technical capacities of social professionals in order to optimize the preparation of social reports that contribute to ensuring dignified reparation for victims who seek assistance from the Public Ministry.
The inauguration ceremony included the participation of distinguished authorities, among them:
- Mr. Melvin Portillo, Secretary of Criminal Policy, representing the Attorney General of the Republic and Head of the Public Ministry;
- Mrs. Mayra Alejandra Carrillo de León, Executive Secretary of the Coordinating Body for the Modernization of the Justice Sector;
- Mrs. Ingrid Johana Romero Escribá, Director of the National Institute of Forensic Sciences;
- Mrs. Jackeline Elizabeth Díaz Díaz, Head of the Victim Support Coordination Department.
This academic forum was made possible thanks to the promotion by the Victim Support Coordination Department, with the valuable support of the Executive Secretariat of the Coordinating Body for the Modernization of the Justice Sector. The activity took place with the purpose of strengthening the social area of the Victim Support Offices through the presentation of various high-level lectures.
Among the topics addressed were:
- “The Victim in the Criminal Process,” by Mr. Melvin Portillo.
- “Importance of the Gender Perspective in the Preparation of Social Reports,” presented by Mr. Alexander Girón, Coordinator Prosecutor of the Women’s Prosecutor’s Office in Zacapa.
- “Gender Perspective and Human Rights,” presented by Mr. Julio Díaz Camey, Regional Prosecutor of Petén.
This important meeting was attended by regional prosecutors, section prosecutors, district prosecutors, acting prosecutors, as well as chiefs and administrative staff.
With this event, the Public Ministry reaffirms its institutional commitment to the Guatemalan population in strengthening comprehensive care for victims from a social and victimological perspective, in order to guarantee prompt, effective justice with a human rights focus.
