Joyabaj in Danger: Sent to Trial for Crimes Committed Against 15 Underage Victims
Based on the investigative evidence presented by the Unit Against Criminal Structures and Special Cases of the Prosecutor’s Office Against Trafficking in Persons, Apolinario Hernández Pu was sent to trial for the crimes of production and possession of pornographic material involving minors, and obstructing criminal prosecution.
The ruling was issued by the First Instance Criminal Court Specializing in Human Trafficking Crimes, after the prosecutor´s office presented a solid case for crimes committed against 15 victims, whose ages ranged from 4 to 12 when they were assaulted.
The court scheduled the hearing for the presentation of evidence for April 29 of this year.
The defendant was arrested on November 28, 2024, as part of Operation “Joyabaj in Danger.” Twelve search warrants were carried out at his workplace, residence, and residential complex, as well as at schools and colleges where the child sexual abuse material was allegedly recorded.
In addition, the victims were located to take statements, conduct interviews, and apply a comprehensive approach in accordance with the prosecutor’s office’s treatment protocol.
