Operation against sexual exploitation leads to four apprehensions and the rescue of 10 women
As part of the investigation process called «Magic Spa,» the Unit against Sexual Exploitation, from the Human Trafficking Prosecutor`s Office, in coordination with the Regional prosecutor and the National Civil Police (PNC), conducted a raid for search, inspection, and seizure of evidence in four properties located in zones 10, 12, and 13 of Guatemala City and zone 3 of Villa Nueva on Monday.
As a result, four individuals were apprehended: Brandon Jonatán Rodríguez Rivas and Luis Eduardo Guerra Cardona for the crimes of human trafficking and illicit association, and Ángel Josué Tay Escobar and Óscar Alfredo Toruño Pereda for the crime of promoting, facilitating, or favoring prostitution.
The rescue of 10 women was also achieved, with six of them located in the property in zone 10 and the remaining four in the one in zone 13. The prosecutors in charge of the proceedings took their statements and provided comprehensive care following the protocol for victims of human trafficking.
Two businesses operating as centers of sexual exploitation, disguised as «gentlemen’s spas,» were also closed. These were located at 2nd Avenue 3-23, Lomas de Pamplona, zone 13, and Los Próceres Boulevard, between 9th and 10th avenues in zone 10, both in the capital of Guatemala.
The operations also allowed for the seizure of material evidence that strengthens the investigative hypothesis being developed by the specialized unit.
