Operation SHARK Results in 13 Arrests and Key Evidence Against Human Trafficking Network 

Operation SHARK, led by the Unit Against Criminal Structures and Special Cases of the Human Trafficking Prosecutor’s Office, achieved significant results that strengthen an ongoing investigation.

A total of 20 actions were carried out, including raids, inspections, searches, seizures, and extraction of digital information in Guatemala City, Amatitlán, Mixco, and Villa Nueva. As a result, 13 arrests were made, and one adolescent in conflict with the law was taken into custody.

The arrests involved various crimes:

  • Selvin M. and Manly M. were detained for human trafficking, money laundering, and criminal association. Manly M. also had an outstanding arrest warrant for murder.
  • Brenda C. and Reginaldo M. were arrested for promotion, facilitation, or favoring of prostitution, money laundering, and criminal association.
  • Elvia G. was captured for human trafficking, money laundering, and criminal association.
  • Ayleen C., Héctor I., and Ricardo I. were detained for human trafficking, while Byron C. was arrested for human trafficking and criminal association.
  • Ermides M., Francisco F., and Lorenzo C. were arrested for promotion, facilitation, or favoring of prostitution.
  • William G. was arrested for possession for consumption, and an adolescent was taken into custody for illegal possession of a firearm.

During the raids, investigators seized critical evidence, including:

  • 12 firearms
  • 217 rounds of ammunition
  • 5 vehicles
  • 41 mobile phones
  • 7 POS devices
  • 797 documents
  • Approximately Q30,000 in cash
  • Various suspected narcotics
