In follow-up to the investigation into the theft of weapons from the Northern Air Command “Teniente Coronel Danilo Eugenio Henry Sánchez”, located in Santa Elena de la Cruz, Flores, Petén, Klayber Sical, Section Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office Against Organized Crime, provided an update on the progress of the investigation during a press conference.

He explained that the Petén District Prosecutor’s Office initially handled the case, which was later transferred to the Unit Against Illegal Firearms Trafficking of the Prosecutor’s Office Against Organized Crime, which has carried out multiple investigative actions since November 4.

These operations have been conducted in coordination with the Metropolitan Regional Prosecutor’s Office, with support from the Sub-directorate of Narcotics Information Analysis (SGAIA), the Division for the Investigation and Deactivation of Arms and Explosives (DIDAE), specialized K-9 units, and personnel from the Guatemalan Army.

As a result, authorities have recovered:

1,800 rounds of 5.56 caliber ammunition

Seven Galil rifles (5.56 caliber), both for exclusive military use

Three M-79 grenade launchers

Additionally, cell phones, laptops, and mass storage devices were seized, providing crucial information to continue the investigation.

Through the corresponding judicial authorizations, four arrest warrants were executed for the crimes of aggravated theft and failure to perform duties, and the individuals apprehended have already been formally linked to the case.

The investigation continues under the supervision of the Public Ministry and remains confidential.
