Public Ministry Coordinates the Apprehension of Leaders of the Lev Tahor Sect
In connection with the ongoing investigation of the Lev Tahor Case, the Public Ministry, through the Prosecutor’s Office for Human Trafficking, coordinated the apprehension of four of its leaders: Yoel Goldman and Nissen Yehoshia Yehuda Malka, charged with child abuse; in addition, Chaim Malka for the crime of human trafficking through forced or servile pregnancy; and Dinkel Avrohom for child abuse.
The first two apprehensions were executed at 6th Avenue “A” and 20th Street, Zone 1, Guatemala City. Prosecutorial personnel, together with the crime scene team, arrived at the location where, in collaboration with agents from the Specialized Investigation Unit of the National Civil Police, the detainees—who were inside a vehicle and refused to exit—were identified.
The remaining two apprehensions were carried out with the support of Interpol Guatemala in Melchor de Mencos, Petén, where the suspects were transferred by Belizean authorities after attempting to enter that country illegally.
Arrest warrants were issued by the Specialized Court for Human Trafficking Crimes of the Guatemala Department.
The Public Ministry reiterates its call to all individuals who may have been involved with this sect and who have been victims of any criminal offense to file a complaint, so that investigations can be conducted, responsibilities determined, and legal action taken against those responsible.
At the Public Ministry, we work day by day to protect and guarantee the rights of children and adolescents, ensuring that they may lead a fulfilled and safe life.
