The Prosecutor’s Office Against Extortion obtained a conviction against two members of the Barrio 18 gang, belonging to the “Crazy Rich” clique, for the crimes of criminal association, conspiracy to commit murder, and murder. The verdict was issued by the Fourth Criminal Sentencing Court for Narcotics and Environmental Crimes.

• Alex Q., alias “Snoopy” (homie brincado), was sentenced to 56 years in prison. He was found guilty of two counts of conspiracy to commit murder (25 years for each count) and criminal association (six years).
• José R., alias “Campechana” (hitman), was sentenced to 31 years in prison for murder (25 years) and criminal association (six years).

During the oral and public trial, the prosecution demonstrated that both individuals were active members of the “Crazy Rich” criminal structure, operating in Zone 6 of Guatemala City since at least 2019.

The investigation established that “Snoopy” coordinated with other clique members to plan and order the killings of victims who refused to pay the extortion demands.

It was also proven that “Campechana” was the principal perpetrator of the murder of a bus driver on June 25, 2019, in the municipality of Chinautla.

These convictions are part of the ongoing efforts by the Public Ministry to dismantle organized criminal networks involved in extortion and violent crimes.
