Public Ministry Recognizes Exemplary Practices in Protecting Women Victims of Sexual Violence
As part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence—a campaign promoted by the United Nations in commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women—the Public Ministry (PM) organized a national competition.
The “II National Competition for Best Prosecutorial Practices in Exercising Due Diligence in Sexual Offense Cases Against Women”, directed at the Women’s Prosecutor’s Office and its branches nationwide, was formally awarded during a protocol ceremony held this Thursday.
The event was presided over by the Attorney General of the Republic and Chief of the Public Ministry, Ms. María Consuelo Porras Argueta, accompanied by the Second Deputy Secretary General, Ms. Julia María Juárez Sagüil; the Secretary for Women, Ms. Lucrecia Varinia Vásquez; and the Director of the Training Unit, Mr. Sergio Ortiz.
During the ceremony, the work carried out by the various Women’s Prosecutor’s Offices was formally recognized, and the top five offices were awarded based on their performance in due diligence, provision of information rights, respect for victims’ interests, victim-centered attention, and comprehensive, dignified, and transformative reparations.
The evaluation also considered the contextual and procedural coherence in restoring the violated rights of women victims of sexual offenses, with the aim of exchanging best practices for standardization across the country.
Through this initiative, the Public Ministry acknowledged the dedication and commitment of personnel working in these offices, who embody the values and principles of the institution: strong and firm.
