Public Ministry secures 14-year prison sentence for man convicted of seduction, blackmail, and possession of child pornography
Following the presentation of evidence during oral and public trial proceedings, the Online Child Sexual Exploitation Unit of the Prosecutor’s Office Against Human Trafficking secured a 14-year prison sentence against José R.
The sentence includes:
- 6 years for the crime of seducing minors through the use of information technologies
- 6 years for blackmailing minors using digital means
- 2 years for possession of child pornography
As part of the reparations for moral damages, the Criminal Sentencing Court Specializing in Human Trafficking Offenses in the Department of Guatemala ordered financial compensation to the victims. Additionally, in line with victim protection measures, the court ordered psychological treatment for the mothers of both victims and their inclusion in support programs provided by the Ministry of Social Development.
According to the investigation, the accused used a fake social media profile under the name “Dayana Beltrán” to contact the victims and request pornographic material. It was also proven that he threatened one of the victims with sharing a video in order to force her to send more material. The illicit content was later found on his mobile device.
The crimes were committed against two teenage girls between June and October 2023.
The Public Ministry reaffirms its commitment to protecting children and adolescents, and to acting steadfast and strong against these crimes.
