Women Leading Justice: Public Ministry Recognizes Female Leadership on International Women’s Day

In commemoration of International Women’s Day, the Public Ministry of Guatemala, through its Secretariat for Women and the Human Resources Directorate, recognized the initiative “Women Leading for Justice,” with the aim of highlighting the contributions made by women working in prosecutorial, technical, and administrative areas who help strengthen the institution.

During the event, diplomas and recognition pins were presented to women employees of the PM serving in leadership positions, acknowledging their commitment, professional trajectory, and contributions to decision-making, as well as their role in implementing actions that promote and strengthen the incorporation of a gender perspective within the institution.

The event also recognized the invaluable support of the Attorney General of the Republic and Head of the PM, Ms. María Consuelo Porras Argueta, for the implementation of initiatives with a gender-focused approach.

Currently, women represent 41% of the workforce of the Public Ministry of Guatemala and 49% of decision-making positions, reflecting significant progress in women’s participation and leadership within the institution.

As part of ongoing efforts to support women victims of violence, the Attorney General highlighted the strengthening of the Ixkem Comprehensive Care Model for Women Victims of Violence (MAIMI), which aims to ensure comprehensive, coordinated, and gender-sensitive care for victims and users.

Coverage has also been expanded to 67 Women’s Prosecutor’s Offices nationwide, along with the strengthening of the Prosecutor’s Office Against the Crime of Femicide and its seven regional units, as well as the Comprehensive Care Model for Children and Adolescents (MAINA) and its prosecutorial offices in Alta Verapaz, Retalhuleu, and Suchitepéquez.

Based on the principles of transparency and accountability, the Secretariat for Women presented its 2025 Annual Report, highlighting actions carried out during the year, including monitoring the implementation of gender-focused regulations and strengthening specialized services.

These efforts also include mainstreaming the gender perspective within prosecutorial and administrative areas, administrative follow-up to the Isabel-Claudina Immediate Search Alert, inter-institutional representation initiatives, gender-focused communication efforts, and commemorative activities held throughout the year.

In addition, the institution officially introduced a gender-focused section on its website, accessible through the institutional portal www.mp.gob.gt, designed to share information about institutional initiatives in this area.

Through these actions, the Public Ministry of Guatemala reaffirms its commitment to promoting gender equality, women’s leadership, and the strengthening of a more inclusive institution committed to human rights.

Guatemala, March 9, 2026.
