Public Ministry Strengthens Frontline Response to Transnational Gangs
On August 1, 2025, Attorney General María Consuelo Porras Argueta, Chief of Guatemala’s Public Ministry (PM), led a key operational meeting with officials from the Special Unit Against Transnational Gangs, reaffirming the country’s commitment to dismantling organized gang structures.
The session included participation from:
- Dimas Jiménez y Jiménez, Metropolitan Regional Prosecutor
- Juan Luis Pantaleón, Senior Advisor to the Attorney General
- Marleny Estela Rodríguez, Prosecutor, Special Anti-Gang Unit
Representatives of the Transnational Anti-Gang Center (CAT) of the National Civil Police (PNC) also took part, including:
- Sergio Helmuth Chun Coy, Acting Chief of the Analysis Office
- Luis Armando Ramos, Head of CAT
- Members of CAT’s technical team
Key ongoing cases were reviewed, enabling joint operational analysis and the development of coordinated actions to strengthen the PM’s institutional response capacity.
The meeting also included virtual collaboration with El Salvador’s Attorney General’s Office, where Ramón Alexis Ayala Martínez, Chief of the Specialized Investigation Team, shared best practices and effective strategies from El Salvador.
In a symbolic act of recognition, the Special Anti-Gang Unit presented Mrs. Porras Argueta with a special distinction for her leadership and steadfast commitment.
These actions reaffirm the PM’s proactive role in regional cooperation, criminal intelligence sharing, and the targeted prosecution of transnational gang crime.
